hyd(e)r0sion (2022)
Commission: Bent Frequency, with support from the Hugo and Christine Davise Fund for Contemporary Music
Instrumentation: alto saxophone and percussion (5 temple blocks, suspended cymbal, 2 bongos, 2 toms, kick bass drum, and vibraphone)
Duration: 6 minutes
Program Information:
hyd(e)r0sion is inspired by the lines and shapes formed in soil and clay formed by the detachment and removal of soil by water. There are many
types of erosion, including splash erosion, sheet erosion, rill erosion and gully erosion. Water erosion wears away the earth’s surface, and this removal of topsoil—the layer of soil with the greatest amount of organic matter, biological activity and nutrients—restricting its ability to sustain
future uses.
Premiere: November 5 2022 | Bent Frequency Duo | Los Angeles, CA
